SIMPLE & CHIC HALLOWEEN DECOR

October is here and now that Thanksgiving has passed, it’s time to start thinking about Halloween.  For those of you who don’t know… I’m obsessed with Halloween!!!  My birthday happens to fall the day after, so every year I like to do a Halloween/Birthday event and put a theme to it.  Last year I hosted my party at BATL Grounds, which is a unique urban venue where you have the thrill of learning axe throwing and have a competitive game amongst your friends. Dress code was Zombies!  This year I decided on the theatrical Escape Room Challenge at Toronto’s beautiful landmark, Casa Loma Castle.  The Escape game has a full sound and set design with live actors!  The game unfolds in the post World War II era of Toronto’s history, so I thought it would be a perfect idea to all dress in 1940’s fashion to match with the theme and venue.  Eek!  I can’t wait!  I love organizing these events and the best part is putting my costume together and seeing what everyone else comes up with for theirs. With all the excitement on planning the event, my halloween decor tends to take a back seat.  I like to go light with the decor and choose items that are classy, affordable and easy to get.  I’ve put together some tips to help inspire you to add a little Halloween in your home!

#1  Replace your pictures with Halloween wall arthalloween-wall-art

This is an easy way to add some Halloween fun into your living room.  There are a ton of printable wall art you can find online and print out instantly.  The best part is when Halloween is over, they are so easy to store away for next year.  I came across these really cool prints at ellaclaireinspired.com and they’re FREE!  Check it out here.

#2  Bare tree branches

branches

I love this idea.  There are so many things you can do by just grabbing tree branches from your very own backyard or at a close by park. Some ideas are lay them over your mantel, put them in a vase on your coffee table or dinning table, and for the extra long branches, you can stick them in a corner or by your front door and add some pumpkins beside them.

#3  Change your regular candles to black candles

Such a simple concept, but this little change will really start making your place feel festive. Black tapered candles are inexpensive and to add a little more to it, you can buy plastic spiders and cobwebs at the dollar store and throw them on the base of the candle holder.

#4  Paint your pumpkins

Pumpkins of course are a must-have in your Halloween decor!  I’m all about the neutral decor in my own home, so my obvious choice for favourite pumpkin is the white ghost pumpkin. Sometimes they aren’t the easiest to find, so I just grab a can of spray paint.  Make them any colour to match your current decor to give a subtle touch of Halloween.  I like to scatter them around my home.  I believe there’s no such thing as too many pumpkins!

#5  Accent Pillows

This one’s a little more on the splurge side, but since we hardly spent any money on the pervious suggestions, it’s time to spend a little more on something that will tie everything together.  Find a couple fabulous Halloween themed pillows that speak to you. Then pick out a few other pillows that would match those ones, but could also be used all year round.  For example; a pillow that has a black swiss cross on it could be used day-to-day or with your Halloween decor.

#6  Black Crows

Faux black crows of course 😉  Don’t you think they add that perfectly creepy touch for Halloween?  You can easily find them at your local dollar store or craft store and at only a few dollars you can make a scary chic statement!

  1. Char,
You sure know how to host a memorable fun Birthday celebration. The 40’s was a decade of inspiring fashion and décor, cocktail hour like never before. I hope you will share photos of your celebration. I think it might of been an era I would of enjoyed experiencing.
All your Halloween ideas are great ideas, the baby boos, tree branches and black candles are displayed in our home – although I have been so busy with a faux painting project I have not had the chance to take a can of Black spray paint to the branches yet.
    See you over at intragram!

    1. Hi Vera,
I love the 1940’s era as well! I haven’t found the perfect outfit yet, but I do know exactly how I want my hair. The women had such fun hairstyles back in the 40’s with the victory rolls & pin curls and I can’t wait to try them. Nice to know you are interested in seeing pictures of my celebration… I may have to post some then! 🙂
I love seeing all your Halloween decor on Instagram so far. I could definitely see painted branches added in your charming row home.
Well, thanks for stopping by. So kind of you.
