BIRTHDAY BRUNCH

“Life should not only be lived, it should be celebrated.”  I love this quote because it’s a reminder to have fun a little and celebrate this gift of life that we all are lucky to experience.  As I get older, I find myself wanting to celebrate my birthday even more than when I was younger, which I know is extremely odd;  Most people think the opposite!  But hey, this is the youngest I’ll ever be so I better enjoy it!  lol!  Here’s a little peek into my party details, plus my review on the restaurant and my outfit details.

The Venue

In previous years I’ve always did a Halloween themed party, but this year I wanted to do something different.  Brunch is my favourite meal, so I decided to do a girls birthday brunch that of course involved mimosas!  Planta is a vegan, plant-based restaurant located in Yorkville area in Toronto.  I’m not vegan but it had pretty good reviews and the interior decor is perfect for “party decor”, since I knew I didn’t have time leading up to my party to be buying and diy-ing decor. For those reasons I picked Planta.

If you’re interested in hosting your birthday party at Planta, here are some things you need to know.

  • If you have a party of 8+ you can’t reserve a table online.  You have to contact their “Events + Large Party Bookings” to reserve.  I suggest emailing them because they were hard to get hold of by phone.
  • If you have a party bigger than 11, you unfortunately must do “event booking” and get a prix fixe menu.  The cost is $40-$60 approx. per person depending if you make changes to the set menu. You also have to pay upfront $35 per guest at the time of booking as a deposit and of course a contract is involved.  This is also the case if you would like to book a party room, but FYI they only have two party rooms.  One can fit up to 10 and the other up to 45 guest.  I opted for the regular dining room, with no deposit, so my guest could pick what they wanted to eat. Luckily, it worked out that I had exactly 10 in my party to allow me to do so.
  • If you bring outside food in, it MUST be vegan!  I did not know that and had some of my food items taken away.  🙁
  • Also, if you do bring outside food… even just cookies that are party favours, you have to pay a plating fee.  I also was not aware of that.

My overall thoughts on the restaurant…

I don’t think I would ever go back, but all in all we did have a great time.  Our waitress was very friendly and patient with us and the atmosphere really made the experience worth while.  The food however, as a group we came to the consensus that it was just okay.

The Party Favours

I kept coming across really creative custom sugar cookies over Pinterest and I knew I wanted to get some done for my birthday.  I meet @sweetxlv across Instagram and I’m so glad I did!  She made me the prettiest cookies and brought my vision to life.  They are almost too pretty to even eat!  Thank you Linda for working with me and squeezing me in such a short notice.  The cookies were a hit!

FYI: If you are ever interested in ordering cookies, make sure you order well in advance.  I called a couple of bakeries and they were fully booked until late spring of 2019!

The Outfit

If you follow me on Instagram (@allstylelife), you know I have an obsession for blush pink!  So of course my outfit was going to involve some sort of pink in it.  I surprisingly found this dress at Forever21 last summer (unfortunately they don’t sell it anymore).  It was maybe a little bit too cool to be walking around bare legs, but what the heck… it was a special occasion right?  😉  By pairing this summer dress with white booties, it gave my outfit a more “fall” feel.  The booties are from Aldo and I just purchased them last week!  Click HERE if you want to order the same pair.

I also told my girlfriends to arrive in a lighter colours, to have some sort of theme to our pictures!

Extra Details

What’s a birthday without balloons? lol!  Sunday morning I head out the door before my party so I could get helium in the balloons that I purchased at Indigo Chapters. (Aren’t they cute?) I get to The Party Store, which was a huge mistake because it’s always rammed in there with only one person working on the balloons. I patiently waited 40 mins for my balloons, I get to my car, put them in and they immediatly all pop except for three!!!!  LOL!!!  Pink and gold confetti went flying all over my car and I still haven’t gotten around to cleaning it.  Anyway, I had to made due with just three balloons.  They got the job done!

The last detail was the photographer!  I was so lucky to have Janet from JANET KWAN PHOTOGRAPHY caputure this day!  It was so fun doing a mini girls shoot and it was nice to not have to pick up my camera once.  I just got to relax and enjoy every minute of my party.

I had such a wonderful day celebrating my birthday and of course it all wouldn’t have happened without my amazing group of girlfriends.  They’re like family and I wouldn’t want to celebrate without them.

I hope you enjoyed the little peek into my birthday party.  I hope I’ve inspired you to celebrate your life because you know what?  You DESERVE IT!!!

XO
