DIY NO-SEW CONVERSATION HEART PILLOWS

I have mixed feeling about Valentine’s Day.  I do feel like it’s a little over-rated and commercialized, but then I also feel like it forces us to stop just for one day to really appreciate and show our love to all the important people in our lives… not just for significant others, but for family and friends too!  And who can ignore those yummy and cute candies like conversation hearts, cinnamon hearts & chocolate kisses.  I’m not gonna lie, I’m guilty of buying all that cheesy shit.  This year I wanted to add a little Valentine’s decor to my home too. (Let’s face it, any chance I get to decorate, I’m gonna!)  I came up with the idea to make my favourite conversation heart candies into a pillow, but later found out that it’s been done a bunch of times already on the web.  So, unfortunately I can’t take credit for this awesome idea, but it’s not going to stop me from making them and posting how I personally made mine!  These pillows are so cute and extremely easy to make. You don’t have to know how to sew; you just a need a glue gun. And can I add,  who ever invented the hot glue gun is a genius!  Literally the best invention ever. Anyway, if you have about an hour free, continue reading and follow along to make one too!

Glue Sticks

Cut out two identical heart shapes from the fabric of your choice.  Try to pick a fabric that doesn’t fray.  I free handed my hearts, but you can also try making a stencil first to trace out the hearts.  You will also need a long strip of the same fabric about 2.5 inches wide and the length will depend on how big your heart is.  Measure the circumfrance of the heart to get your length.

For the lettering, I also free handed it, but I used 3-ring lined paper to help me made the box letters all the same size and shape.  Another idea would be to print out some lettering from the web or Microsoft Word and use those as a stencils.

Take your stencil and lay it backwards onto the felt and trace with a sharpie or pen.  The reason why I put it backwards is so you won’t be able to see the trace marks.  Carefully cut out the letters with a good pair of scissors, preferably fabric scissors.

Centre the lettering and hot glue the letters onto the heart.

Take the long strip and line it up with the edge of the heart making sure the good side of the fabric is facing in.

Hot glue the strip down at the very edge and all the way around the heart, making sure to pinch the glue well at the edges.

Lay out the other heart with the good side facing up.  Take the heart with the attached strip and lay it on top of it, good side down.

Repeat the same thing you did earlier, which is hot glue the edge of the strip onto the bottom heart. Continue all the way around, but make sure to leave a little hole to turn your heart inside out!

Once completed, it should look like this!  Flip it inside out.

Time to stuff!!!  There’s different options for stuffing.  I used polyester stuffing which I bought on sale at a craft store.

Once stuffed, carefully crease the edges and hot glue it together.

Same with the end strip.  I tucked the left over piece into the hole and hot glued it together.

And VOLIA!  The cutest Valentine’s decor pillow!

Hope you enjoyed my easy step-by-step picture tutorial.

Happy Valentine’s Day to you all.  MWAH!
